Sound Meter is part of the Smart Tools collection, specifically the 4th set. It provides a convenient solution for those who have experienced noise disturbances from neighbors.

The SPL (sound pressure level) meter app utilizes the embedded microphone on your smartphone to measure and display noise volume in decibels (dB), along with a reference point. It's worth noting that the majority of smartphone microphones are optimized for human voice frequencies (300-3400Hz, 40-60dB) since they are primarily used for voice calls.

Due to this design limitation, manufacturers have placed constraints on the maximum decibel value that can be captured by the microphone. As a result, very loud sounds exceeding 100 dB may not be accurately detected by the app. For example, the Moto G4 has a maximum limit of 94 dB, the Galaxy S6 85 dB, and the Nexus 5 82 dB.

This app allows you to easily assess if your voice projection in a lecture or the volume of a TV you have turned on is excessive. The 6th image showcases the calibration process using an actual sound meter (dBA) on major Android devices. You can rely on this app for everyday noise levels ranging between 40-70 dB, serving as a helpful auxiliary tool.
